Third Person Essay Writing - How to Tell a Story From the Third Person

Third Person Essay Writing - How to Tell a Story From the Third PersonIn the first place, the rules of third person essay writing are fairly simple. Second person essay writing is basically about telling someone's story. It can be narrated by a single person or it can involve multiple people, but basically it's the same story told from a different point of view. The only way to tell a good story is to tell it from the point of view of a 'we' rather than from the point of view of an 'I.'But it's not only us and our perspectives that are important. What you're writing needs to be told from a perspective of what the writer 'sees' in the writer's life. So let's look at the writing process and how it works. Here's a good rule of thumb: if the author isn't feeling like writing, he doesn't.First, write your essay as if you're the writer and as if you're telling your story in first person. Then you'll be in a better position to project your voice and express yourself with more ease. You shou ld also try to project the 'I' that is trying to find out about 'him.' Even if the reader can follow your words, he will probably have trouble when he thinks that he's reading 'my' story. He's going to be more likely to become engaged when he thinks that he's in 'his' story.'Seemingly irrelevant facts' (not 'facts,' remember) can be put in a little box or hidden in a footnote, for the purpose of punctuating the whole story for effect, or to make the reader feel that something more is being said. When you do this, it's acting as if the writer was actually telling the story. After the first paragraph, you should stop to ask yourself, 'Now that's time to act like you're the one telling your story. Now that's where the action is. Now that's where it's time to get down to business.'You're writing in third person and you're projecting the author's voice, so the narrative voice is going to be different from the voice of the writer. This is going to require some experimentation with what loo ks and feels right to you.Another point of note is that the actual words that make up the essay -- or 'story' -- are 'first person' and those words are going to be very personal. For example, if you're giving a history lesson, the information can be less personal, but even that 'personal' detail is going to have a big impact on the reader. All you're doing is moving the reader's perspective. In the final analysis, if the writer's point of view and the story's point of view are both from the 'I' then there is going to be no intercommunication between the two. However, if they're 'them'us' then there is going to be some intercommunication. And that is the key to successful third person essay writing.
